ORION / TECHNICAL OVERVIEW

Built with Chronos.

Orion and its engine are developed together. These are the current implementation details.

Orion engine and runtime specifications
EngineChronos

Custom engine, game runtime, and editor developed alongside Orion.

Language and runtimeC# / .NET 10

The engine and simulation projects target .NET 10. Gameplay scripts are compiled through Roslyn.

Graphics APIWebGPU / wgpu

Native WebGPU access through Silk.NET. Backend support depends on the operating system and graphics driver.

LightingTiled Forward+

A GPU compute pass assigns lights to screen tiles for the shared lighting path.

GeometryPBR and GPU instancing

Physically based materials, automatic instance batching, visibility culling, and generated level-of-detail paths.

InterfaceClay UI

Shared panel themes and reusable UI documents. The website uses the game’s IBM Plex Mono and Chakra Petch fonts.

SimulationDeterministic campaign core

Economy, AI, fleets, politics, and campaign state advance through deterministic commands and simulation ticks.

Game contentJSON definitions + C#

Data-driven factions, technologies, events, and other content connected to C# game behavior.

MultiplayerLAN and Steam integration

Host-controlled setup, synchronized command processing, campaign snapshots, and recovery paths. Campaign validation is complete for Early Access.

PersistenceVersioned campaign state

Saved simulation state, content identity checks, round-trip validation, and replay comparisons.

Development toolsEditor, profilers, and scenario runners

Focused smoke coverage, campaign scenarios, performance probes, and UI validation tools.

Keeping a campaign consistent

Commands are validated by the simulation. Replay and save/load checks compare campaign state, including parallel preparation paths where applicable. The game’s presentation is kept separate from authoritative simulation state.

Hardware and platforms

Minimum and recommended PC requirements will be listed here once confirmed. Development builds and engine capabilities don’t establish a supported hardware specification.
